David Petersen - Master Finisher

I first started working with furniture at an early age and had watched my father design, build and finish most of our family furniture. This experience sparked a passion in me that would continue to grow and provide me a lifelong career which I love.   When I first started I was highly motivated, having been raised with strict work ethics, I was ambitious and independent. My father owned and ran his business, working countless hours to support his family and was incredibly devoted to both. I worked for my father at a very early age helping with his business and being taught responsibility, integrity and devotion. In a nutshell Done Once, Done Right ! was how my father taught me. My grandfather always taught me to do something extra on each job even if its overlooked by the customer, you always do something extra. I learned, earned and grew to embrace a strong work ethic that would carry me forward into a promising career. At the age of 15, I rented a garage from the neighbour and refinished another neighbours coffee table and I haven't stopped since! I have worked with and studied under two different Master Finishers. I have worked with countless talented tradesmen. A Scottish master finisher taught me faux finishing, painting in grain and touch-ups.  A European trained Master Finisher who specialized in french polishing taught me how to french polish and more importantly how to work with and manipulate the finishes with chemicals. Richard Locke, Furniture Designer/Joiner was a colleague I worked with and learned from about custom manufacturing. I have been blessed by all of the talented tradesmen who have contributed to my learning and skills over the years, there are so many I couldn't possibly mention all of them. I have spent years cultivating my skills and talents while gaining an appreciation of a trade which I have Mastered. I have worked with moving and insurance companies for years. I have learned how to do all kinds of on-site touch ups and repairs as well as custom colour matching which I specialize in. I know how to make damage literally disappear. I am able to match repairs into existing finishes which is a skill only acquired through years of hands on experience. I have done countless residential pieces including family heirlooms and my favourite is being able to preserve and restore beautiful old family pieces handed down through the generations. I do custom manufacturing - through all of the moving damage and restoration work I have done, I have learned how to re- create missing, damaged and broken pieces. I have worked with pianos pulled out of house fires and water damaged furniture from floods. I have done many commercial applications including all wood maintenance in bars, pubs, restaurants and hotels.  I looked after all the wood maintenance in the bar and lounge areas in the Avalon Hotel in North Vancouver. I was approached by Sinclair centre in downtown Vancouver to re-do the food court which included refinishing 1600 chairs and 400 table bases (all done by hand) which I completed in 32 days. I refinished all of the seats of the Gibsons Heritage playhouse theatre in Gibsons BC (seats and backs) about 15 years ago and they still look great today. I have restored the Sechelt Indian Bands board room table and refinished two board room tables for local Sunshine Coast banks. I’m a professional and love what I do. I’m whole-heartedly passionate about restoration and refinishing. Trust a Professional. Call me today at 604-885-0842
